Waiting to be taken to OR
Post-Surgery
The surgery went well. Everything happened pretty fast. When we arrived this morning, they had his IV in and he was ready to go. We were able to hold him for a little while, and then the surgery nurses came to take him down to the OR. We went down with them, met all the doctors and the surgeon, and kissed him good-bye. A couple hours later, the surgeon came in and told us everything went perfect. They were able to do the fundo laprascopically, so all the incisions are pretty tiny. They also circumcised him. He was only in the recovery room for about an hour before they moved him back up to the NICU. He was off the vent by this point, so we were really relieved about that because it took him so long to come off the vent after his trach surgery. On our way up from the recovery room, he starts making the sucking motion with his mouth. It was pretty cute and nice to see because he was so out of it and motionless after his trach surgery. He was probably wondering where his bottle was since we had been pushing it so much recently. He gets a little agitated occasionally, but once we give him his binkie he relaxes. He's on morphine for the pain, and his blood sugar was a little high after surgery so they're keeping an eye on that. Grammy sat with him for a long time this afternoon and sang to him and held his hand. He really loved it! They'll start feeding him again tomorrow, and once he recovers, we're out of there! Thanks to everyone for the prayers and support!!! I wish I could articulate just how much it means to us and somehow repay our gratitude!!!

I'm so glad that Chase did well with his surgery. Chase is paying us all back by getting well. You don't have to pay anyone back for their gratitude. Soon he will get to go home then you and Chris get to decide who changes the next dirty diapers!!! At this point BRING THEM ON!!! He looks so sweet. Praying for you all.

gOOD news that Chase's surgery went well. I'm sure you both are anxious to be home and for Chase to be out of the hospital. It is always a positive move to be sent home when hospitalized. Just remember to ask for relief caregiving when you need respite. Parents who are rested are better caregivers than exhausted ones. If I had to grade your caregiving skills, a 9 on a 1-9 scale would be your skills IMHO
