Follow-Up Appt

We had our first follow-up doctor visit today with Chase's primary physician, Dr. Gratney, since being discharged. It went well! Chase now weighs 8lbs 9oz, they discontinued two of the three meds he's on (Diuril and Sodium Chloride). So he's still getting the Iron. They said he looks great and his trach and g-tube look great. We'll see them back in three weeks along with neurosurgery (to follow-up with the C1 stenosis) and the Hearing and Speech Clinic (for hearing aids). It was strange going back to Children's and sort of feeling that rush of anxiety I used to feel each time I'd set foot in there. But it was nice turning around and coming home with Chase in the backseat. We really like Dr. Gratney and trust her alot. So that makes us feel better. We met with the social worker as well to make sure we have all of our facts straight when deciding whether or not to move to Kansas. We've done alot of investigating and spoke with many people, and it's looking like Kansas might be the smartest thing and most financially advantageous. Kansas would provide us much greater support for the things Chase needs, like all of his medical supplies, private duty nursing for when we go back to work, and health care coverage (he's about to reach his lifetime insurance max at 4 months old believe it or not, and would then become uninsured in Missouri). We don't qualify for any govt assistance in Missouri but would in Kansas. So I guess we're lucky we live so close to Kansas now and we have this as an option. We need to write it all out so we can visually see the differences in MO and KS, and then figure out what to do next. Never a dull moment with the Wilsons :)

Trust in the Lord with all your heart, and do not rely on your own understanding; think about Him in all your ways, and He will guide you on the right paths.
Proverbs 3:5-6

I'm so glad your follow-up appointment went well and that you like Dr. Gratney.I guess we better get our basement fixed up so the Wilson's can move in! :)

Come on over to the "dark" side! It would be nice to have another Missourian on this side of the state line. I still bleed black and gold, but really do enjoy living in Shawnee, KS. They say it's God's country out here...maybe Chase needs to grow up in God's backyard. :)

Chase is the absolute cutest! I can't tell you how much we rely on your blog to get each day started! It's taken this long for me to successfully set up a Google account so I can add a comment-sad, I know!

Gordon, the girls, and I have lived in OP, KS for 24 yrs. and love it! Once you get past the idea that "you're from Missouri" you will too! Welcome!

I start each day with checking on Chase's journey, such a sweet heart. I really hate to loose him (and you two) to the Kansas side but I guess you really didn't ask my opinion anyway. You two are doing such a great job with everything that is being thrown at you. Best of luck with finding just the right house AGAIN!

It's nice to read about Chase and his journey. I admisre the optimism you express and the positive outlook on such potential burdens.
I know we're several hours away but please let us know if there is anything we can help with or if you need contacts for real estate, health insurance, etc. We can certainly ask around.

I'm soo happy to hear Chase's appointment went well! I think it's a fantastic idea for you to move to Kansas. I hear they have better schools there.=) Maybe Chase will turn out to be a Jayhawk?!? By the way, I loved the picture with the Speedo...Seeing that and watching the Olympics makes me think back to those early morning swim team practices in that COLD water. You and Leigh Anne definitely toughed it out better than I did.=)

Chase is such a cutie, and we were thrilled to hear that his checkup went so well. You're obviously doing a great job!!! We loved the picture in the speedo---and that red tinge to his hair is a definite "plus" in our family!:)Moving to Kansas isn't all that bad. (Of course, we made sure that we could see Missouri from our back yard!!) Keep on keeping on. Chase is so fortunate to have you two as his parents!

It is a good feeling to know the hospital is there when needed; however, feels better when you can check out and go home. Sounds like Chase likes home better than the hospital with the gains he has made. I continue with 2nd dbs(deep brain surger) at KUHospital on Mon 8/18. At least this is the LAST surgery followed by the outpatient procedure to install the activa device on my left side. Nothing like being "wired" and waiting for the "turn on" in September. Hoping to have an ice cream treat with the Wilson's in the future.

I'm happy to hear that the check-up went well. Let me know if I need to start helping you look for places. :-) I still have that addiction of just 'seeing what's out there.' I wish I was closer so I could swing by and say hello. Unfortunately this message is going to have to do for now.
Miss you guys!
