Chase is off the vent....yippeeee !!! When we were there this afternoon, he was still on the vent but the settings had been turned down significantly from yesterday. So the nurse felt certain he'd get off the vent today but the doctor hadn't come around to see him and write the order. So I was excited when I went back tonight to see him unhooked from the vent :) He is requiring some extra oxygen though, but at least there's no more vent. Chase also got his new trach, and Chris and I watched as they changed it. When they removed the collar to clean his neck, he got his little hand up there to help and pulled out his old trach. So they had to quick put the new one back in and weren't able to do all the care and cleaning and teaching they had planned. But it worked out okay. It was scary for Chris and I to see Chase's neck with an actual hole there. The site did look very much healed and clean, and the new trach slid right in they said. It's just a crazy concept when you think about it, that he's breathing from his neck. His first feeding after the new trach I was holding him, and he did great until near the end of his feed when he vomited, alot! They said the new trach was a little longer and may be the cause. ENT will come take a look if it keeps happening. He did seem to kind of gag/choke/cough a little, but tonight they ran his feeds over 1 hour instead of 45 min and he did great. When I was holding him this afternoon, he was the most bright eyed and alert we've ever seen him. I kept nodding off, and I'd open my eyes and see his big eyes looking at me, almost studying me. This went on for a good 2 hours, it was great! Tonight when I held him, he was sleeping so good and looked so peaceful. So thank the Lord for another day of many blessings. Go celebrate and have some ice cream :)

Do they still make banana split blizzards at Diary Queen? :) I guess I will have to settle for the ice cream cake I bought Matt for his birthday. Way to go Chase!!
