Chase caught his first cold we think. He's been coughing and sneezing more than usual. He doesn't have a fever, and he looks and acts fine, but he just coughs alot and has to be suctioned quite a bit more. We tried everything from changing his trach to the tubing on the humidified air, but nothing really helped. I feel absolutely horrible because I'm pretty sure I passed my cold off to him and Chris. I tried my hardest to keep everything sanitary, but I guess it wasn't good enough. He does great during the day, but seems to get more congested at night, which is just like me. His monitor kept going off last night when his sats were in the 80s. We gave him a little oxygen and that helped until the oxygen tank ran out. So we debated at 5am if we should call the doctor, or the medical supply people to get more oxygen, or wait a couple hours until of office opens. His oxygen sats came up as he woke up, so we waited a few hours and called the doctor. The doctor said to keep doing what we're doing, but call if he seems to be working harder to breath or his secretions become discolored. Hopefully he gets over it soon.
Now I'm going to sound like a horrible mother because I took him all around town yesterday. But he seemed fine and I thought he seemed better. We went to my work to meet some of my co-workers, and then to Children's Mercy to see Beckie, his primary nurse there. It was sort of strange going back up to the NICU, but seeing Beckie and some of the nursing secretaries who remembered us was fun. I saw a few familiar moms who still have babies there. One mom was at St. Luke's when we were there and got transferred to Children's shortly after us. I thought 100 days in the hospital was long, but I'm sure they've more than topped that!
Occupational and Physical Therapy came this week. They've noticed some improvement with Chase and his development. His head strength is alot better and he is really close to holding his head up on his own. We get the new longer trach Friday, so we're hoping that will make it much easier for him.
We're hoping to be in our new home in a couple weeks. Chris painted Chase's room last weekend. We're getting excited to move in. We're going to turn the selling of our Brookside home over to a realtor and hope and pray it happens soon. We're still waiting to hear from Medicaid that we're approved for the waiver. We know we qualify, we're just waiting for the approval and the final okay. This has us a little concerned since I start work next week and we need to get nursing lined up. So we're working on that. It also complicats things because we're not yet living in Kansas. It will all work out though.
Today Chase and I are just hanging out and cuddling. We had a visit from good friend Carroll and watched Regis and Kelly :) I definitly miss Chris since he went back to work this week. We make a good team when it comes to taking care of Chase and it's a bit more challenging doing it by myself. So I anxiously await him coming home from work :)
And we know that God causes everything to work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to his purpose for them.

The Occupational Therapist working with Chase.
I love how he clasps his hands together! He does it all the time.
Yay! Daddy's home from work.

Katie and Chris,
We love your pics and blogs on Chase's progress. He is such a cutie and appears to be thriving...but why wouldn't he, with parents like you and Chris??!!! :)
Don't be too hard on yourself, Katie, about Chase's cold. Kids catch everything but also rebound much quicker than we do!
We're looking forward to having you all in the neighborhood. Please let us know if there is anything we can do to help in your move or once you are here. We're just a phone call away!
Chris, I hope you're enjoying your new job. I know it's hard to be away from Katie and Chase; and I'm sure it's going to be hard for you, Katie, to return to work. It will just make coming home in the evening just that much sweeter.

Your far from being a horrible mother we all taken our kid out during the day when they are not 100%. Its amazing how they all act so sick at night and then during the day they seem to be just fine.
Its great to have cuddle time. It goes by so fast and then you think were has time gone.
Enjoy your weekend and good luck going back to work. He will do just fine.
Loves,
Carrie
KATIE...You are NOT a bad mother. Goodness! You are an amazing mother, which is completley apparent in the love and care you take with recounting Chase's days. I am anxious to see you in action! And kids catch everything. They bounce back sooner than us, too! It may the the first cold, but not the last, and remember, every cold now builds his immunity to the next one! Remember, you are AMAZING!!

Rita
