Today was definitely a good day. Chase drank 32 mls from his bottle (about an ounce), which is twice as much as he took in last week. I think we were way more excited about this than the doctors, but hey, it's progress! They said ideally they would like to see him take 50-75% of his total daily intake via bottle. But the occupational therapist only works with him and tries the bottle once daily. We sort of got a fuzzy answer when we asked why he only gets the bottle once daily, so we'll have to clarify that. I think he could do it more often.
Chris and I did the trach change today by ourselves. Chris did the hard scary part of taking out the old trach and replacing it with the new one. He did great! And Chase was pretty cooperative today. I think we're getting the hang of it. Chase had a chest x-ray this morning and it showed marginal improvement with his lungs, but improvement nonetheless. He continues to do great without any extra oxygen. Today we were able to unhook him from the humidified air tube, and stick what they call a "nose" on the end of the trach. It makes it much easier to handle Chase, and he did great with that all afternoon while we were holding him.
Tomorrow Chase gets a new set of doctors since it's the first of the month. We're dreading this somewhat only because we're afraid it will take some time to get the new docs up to speed with everything that's been going on. I guess that's where we come in as parents and will have to communicate well. Hopefully he only has a couple more weeks before coming home! We're for sure celebrating with ice cream tonight! :)
I will be glad and rejoice in you; I will sing praise to your name, O Most High. Psalm 9:2

Kate & Chris, He looks very alert today. And that IS good news about taking more milk. We are excited about all steps forward. Looking forward to seeing him again. Love, Lizzi
Dear Katie and Chris,
You have no idea how many people are following your journey and are thankful for Chase's progress.
All I know is everytime we see the binkie, we say, they're going for ice cream.
Love, Aunt Shari and Uncle Bob
I'm so happy to hear about Chase's progress. I knew he would have a light bulb moment with his bottle! You have both become great advocates for Chase and I know you'll be able to communicate with the new set of doctors and get them up to speed. Yay for ice cream; you deserve it for all that you did today! Take Care~ Amy

I just finished my "Cookie Dough" ice cream in Chase's honor- it is getting to be a daily habit with his continued good progress...now who is responsible for the extra pounds I'm gaining?? Maybe this is a silly question but what is the reason you all can't give Chase his bottle, especially since you've observed the OT person do it ?? Just curious ?? Love, Jim & Vic
Katie, he is so precious! And you look great too. Chase is making great progress and he is just adorable. Sounds as though he is in great hands and you have plenty of support through your journey. I am sure there are tons of prayers for him on a daily basis. I'll keep him and your little family in mine! Love, Dana
We continue to read about Chase's journey regularly and pray even more often. We rejoice with the binkie and bottle news! You are amazingly capable parents!
