Today got off to a great start. We walked up to Chase's crib, he was sleeping so peacefully. He looked so cute dressed in his little monkey outfit I brought from home. I put my hand on his head, he opened one eye and gave a big grin. It was probably coincidence, or maybe gas, but nonetheless, it made my day :)
We met with the attending physician and resident and asked our many questions. This was the first day this physician had seen Chase, so some of our questions she deferred to his primary doctor who will be back tomorrow. We basically just wanted to know what the plan is with Chase's feedings and with his respiratory status. Their answers were a little fuzzy, but we're setting up a care conference where we'll sit down with everyone (PT,OT, the doctors, social work, etc) and discuss the plan. But it sounds like Chase is slowly making progress, and that's the key. He's up to 6lbs 5oz tonight, and his oxygen has been weaned down to basically nothing but humidified air. Wahoooo! He is still throwing-up some, but they didn't seem too concerned with that today since he's gaining weight. So his feeds are still running over 45 min. Occupational therapy will work with him every day this week toward bottle feeding. So we are feeling better about things today. It helped alot just to ask the questions to the doctors and vent some of our frustrations. So today started with a smile, and ended with an ice cream cone :)
But blessed are those who trust in the Lord and have made the Lord their hope and confidence.

Chase is so blessed to have parents that are searching for every option to make his life better. But knowing you two, we're not surprised!! Love, Jim & Vic
P.S. I bought more ice cream yesterday but it's not as good as the shop near you!
I'm so glad you are getting your questions answered. Its the little smiles that keep us going along time. Thanks for sharing. I would add some chocolate to that ice cream! :)
When seeing my doctor I find it best to have a hard copy of the questions I need answered. I make the doctor a copy and myself one.
Leave space between the questions to fill in what is said. When you are seeing so many doctors, this may require several copies for the doctors. Some people react better to a written request along with the oral ones.
Even an answer of we won't know until after the results of the xxx testing lets you know results of that test can be asked about later.
My ice cream fix was met by Sonic shake special.
Good luck,
Jeanette
